Alexandra's Reflection

Picture
I have never felt this way in my entire life. So hard to explain with words, and no matter how much I describe to you what I have seen, what I have experienced, and how I am feeling, you will never fully understand. You must experience this yourself.

The children of Akhpradzor have stolen my heart. I’m going to miss their beautiful faces greeting me every morning, their bouquets of hand-picked flowers, and their eagerness to learn. You could tell that HRI just being there and spending time with them was a big thing for the children. It made them feel important and significant. For the first time in their lives, someone outside of their village actually knew and cared about them. This, for me, makes all the hard work I went through to get here, so much more worth it.

I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity. After visiting a place like Akhpradzor, where they live off of their land, have no doctor, a limited water supply, and a hole in the ground as their toilet, one comes to appreciate the lifestyle in America so much more. You gain a better insight as to what is truly important in life. Your priorities and perspectives change, and so everything is now seen in a completely different light. Things that you once deemed to have great importance, no longer carry the same degree of significance. This trip has been immensely humbling. It motivates me to strive for a much simpler living and it empowers me to overcome any strife that comes my way. I made this dream a reality, and I hope to continue this trend on into the future.
