Summer Camp in
Hankavan, Armenia
This year’s summer camp brought together students from both Armenia and Artsakh, many of whom met in person and bonded for the first time. Through shared activities and learning experiences, they built friendships and strengthened a collective sense of belonging. For the first time, we welcomed a student with special needs to our program.
Our 2024 summer camp in Hankavan brought together 85 students from 17 remote villages for four unforgettable days of creativity and discovery. They participated in daily classes including coding, science lab, embroidery, dance, arts & crafts, pottery, Ping Pong, and filming. Volunteers from five countries dedicated their time to designing and teaching these lessons from May to August. Our volunteer team included locals from Armenia and diasporans from the USA, Greece, Lebanon, and Iran. A couple of the US volunteers who tutor English online met their students in person and bonded with them during camp.
Every year, our camps are rooted in meaningful values that reflect the emotional journey of our students and the spirit we hope to nurture. In previous years, we focused on themes like “I’m Loved,” “I’m Capable,” “I’m Strong,” “I’m Forgiving,” and “I’m Grateful.” These affirmations helped students recognize their worth and build self-confidence. This year, we centered our camp around the themes of “Joy in Pain,” “Peace During the Storm,” and “Hope in Darkness.” These values were present throughout the camp experience—serving as daily reminders that even in the hardest moments, light, connection, and resilience are still possible.
This camp was made possible through the generosity of Vardouhi Achabahian, whose donation enabled us to develop an enriching and truly special program for our children. We are deeply grateful for her continued support for our youth.
