Scholar Projects from the 2025-2026 Academic Year

Here are the projects and programs implemented by our scholars. 

“When the Village Speaks” Children’s Book

HRI Scholars Diana Khachatryan and Lina Yuzbashyan, from the village of Kaghartsi in Artsakh, created When the Village Speaks, an adventurous children’s story written entirely in the Artsakh dialect and set in their native village. Rooted in the landscapes, language, and rhythms of village life, the project sought to preserve an important part of Artsakh’s cultural heritage through storytelling accessible to younger generations. Developed with the support of mentors and linguists and published by Zangak Publishing House, the book serves as both a literary work and a meaningful effort to safeguard dialect, memory, and identity.

Nazeli created Sirov Artsakhits, a website dedicated to supporting displaced Artsakh businesses by sharing the stories of the families and individuals behind them. Working with with entrepreneurs ranging from bakers and food producers to artisans and craftsmen, the platform increases visibility for businesses after displacement. The project serves as a digital archive of resilience, preserving histories and the entrepreneurial spirit of Artsakh while connecting businesses with new audiences and opportunities.

Explore Syunik: Guided Tour of Shvanidzor and Alvank

HRI Scholars Qnar and Nelli, from the neighboring Syunik villages of Shvanidzor and Alvank, developed a self-guided village tour designed to share the rich history, cultural heritage, and natural beauty of their communities with visitors. Accessible through QR codes installed on signposts at important landmarks, the project provided historical background, local stories, fun facts, and practical information to guide visitors through the villages. Completed with the support of local volunteers who helped install the signs, the initiative aimed to prepare the region for growing tourism while preserving and celebrating local identity through community storytelling.

Healthy Border Communities: Makenis and Akhpradzor

Lala, an HRI Scholar from Makenis, Gegharkunik, developed a healthcare initiative to improve access to medical resources in the villages of Akhpradzor and Makenis. After conducting a needs assessment with local nurses and healthcare workers, she coordinated the delivery of essential medications, medical instruments, and equipment to village clinics in order to strengthen access to first aid and basic healthcare services. As part of the project, Lala also organized a practical first-aid training session for community members, helping participants develop the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations while promoting greater health awareness in the village.
