Scholar Projects from the 2021-2022 Academic Year

Here are the projects and programs implemented by our scholars.

Renovating the Youth Center
by Ara-Geghetsik Abrahamyan from European University of Armenia

Ara-Geghetsik, partnering with his classmate Tereza from Akhpradzor,  took on the initiative to renovate a room in an old run-down building in their village and turn it into a bright and welcoming educational Youth Center. They transformed the room into a bright and welcoming educational youth center. We included the entire village in the process and got all the students to help! The room is now being used for educational purposes.

Little Free Library
by Perchuhi Hayrapetyan from Northern University

As a Henry Keledjian Service Program Scholar, Perchuhi created a "Free Little Library" in Shvanidzor village. I hope to have motivated students to study and read in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. Little Free Libraries are a book-sharing concept that provides free-of-charge, accessible books to everyone in the community at any given time.​

College & Career Prep
by Tatul Abrahamyan from Armenian State Pedagogical University

Tatul first ran a seminar for the 7-12th graders of our home village Akhpradzor to help them identify their strengths, weaknesses, and the majors they may be interested in. He then planned college visits to Yerevan where we all visited different universities. Many of them had never been to Yerevan. The trip helped them get acquainted with the college application process.​

Embroidery Business 
by Serine Poghosyan from Yerevan State University

Through this program, Serine created a small business, Meghratel, to help the women in our village sell their embroidery and crafts. The name Meghratel combines our region's name "Meghry" with the word "tel," which means "thread" in Armenian. The women sell their products at festivals and online on Instagram with the handle @Meghratel.

College & Career Path
by Laura Manukyan from Yerevan State University

Through this program, Laura gifted my village school in Makenis the following items that they really needed: a speaker, a microphone, and a flipchart. She also conducted a seminar for middle and high school students on how to choose a major and how to apply to our university. Through this project, Laura hoped to inspire the children of Makenis to pursue their higher education.

Educational Excursions

Natush Makhsudyan from National Polytechnic 

For this year's service project, Natush organized a one-day excursion for the 5th, 7th, and 9th-grade students of our local school in Shvanidzor village. The project aimed to expose students to the beautiful and historically significant sites in the region of Syunik, and introduce students to new fields of study in higher education.​

Workshop for High Schoolers
by Vahe Elbakyan from Armenian State University of Economics

To introduce students to college and career opportunities at our university, Vahe organized a two-day workshop for the high school students of his home village, Shvanidzor. Along with 3 of his classmates, we led a seminar on strategic planning and management, followed by an interactive workshop on entrepreneurship.​
