Knar was always captivated by the rich stories shared by her elder family members and fellow villagers in Kolkhozashen, Artsakh. She feared that the physical loss of her homeland might lead to these stories being forgotten. While others work overtime to erase all traces of Armenian culture and history from these lands, she felt it was more important than ever to document and preserve these stories for future generations.
This inspired Knar to start a collection of stories housed online on the following site: www.hiddenstoriesofartsakh.weebly.com in an effort to preserve and archive the history of the people of Artsakh. She began by interviewing her own family members like her grandfather (pictured on the right) and fellow villagers, focusing on the journey of Kolkhozashen teachers through various wars.
Her vision is for the “Hidden Stories of Artsakh” to be a website where anyone can submit their own stories so they can be preserved and shared with the world. The site features several sections where one can access the stories in Armenian, English, and Russian languages, categorized by different regions and villages. In addition to stories, the site archives photographs from Artsakh, through various historical time periods.
