Many high school seniors already find it challenging to decide on their future studies and career paths. When compounded by the upheaval of losing one's home and adapting to an entirely new environment, this task becomes even more daunting. This is why Diana decided to create a career mentorship program for the 12th graders from Kaghartsi village in Artsakh - her hometown. She paired the three high school students with established professionals from different fields that reflected each student's interests and over the course of two months, the students met regularly with their mentors.
During these interactions, mentors assisted students in exploring various fields of study, preparing for college entrance exams, and discovering suitable career paths. They also had the chance to spend time with their mentors in the workplace. The aim was to support the students in transitioning smoothly into the education system of their new community and connecting them with opportunities to ensure their continued education.
Ultimately, all mentees developed a clear plan for their academic pursuits and future steps, which had been their primary challenge following their displacement, and a mentoring relationship was formed that will endure beyond the project's conclusion. With Diana’s help, two even took applied for scholarships to attend university in the fall.
