ARTSAKH CAMP
Spring Camp in
Hankavan, Armenia
In March 2024, HRI hosted a first-of-its kind 3-day camp for our beloved students from Artsakh at our camp site in Hankavan, Armenia. Despite the difficult reality of not running the camp in our ancestral lands, we are grateful that the people of Artsakh continue to thrive and that our team was able to provide an unforgettable weekend for the children of Artsakh.
This special camp brought together 40 students from 14 villages in Artsakh, along with 17 teachers. After nearly 3 years of participating in the online English program with limited in-person interactions, it was incredible to see how quickly the students bonded and felt at home. While most HRI camps have been led by diaspora volunteers, the majority of the staff were locals who taught and worked with our students. Classes included self-care, circus art, sports, doll-making, embroidery, and filmmaking.
The entire camp, which cost approximately $7,000, was generously funded by a family in Los Angeles who made this transformative experience possible.
