As a Henry Keledjian Service Program Scholar, Ara Geghecik, together with his fellow peer from the village, Tereza Sargsyan, 17, embarked on a project to establish an after-school educational youth center for their village.
Inspired by ideas generated by Akhpradzor students during an earlier service project, Ara Geghecik and Tereza took on the initiative to renovate a room in an old building and turn it into an educational youth center. They used the funding to purchase the tools and supplies needed for the renovation.
In a display of true teamwork, they were joined by classmates, alumni, and Birthright Armenia volunteers who traveled from Yerevan to lend a helping hand. Together, they painted the walls, doors, and windows, bringing new life to the run-down old building.
By the end of this year, Ara Geghecik and Tereza plan to furnish the room with a library and desks, in order to create a welcoming space for youth programs and activities.
